Joshua 1: 1-9

Strength and Courage: God’s Call to Joshua and Us

Have you ever stood at the edge of something new: a new challenge, a painful goodbye, a heavy responsibility and felt that wave of fear trying to take over? Maybe you’re there right now carrying a burden that makes your knees shake.  Joshua 1:9 is God’s personal word for people just like you and me—people standing on the edge, unsure, afraid, maybe even feeling unqualified.

This verse is not a suggestion. It’s a command.

God directly commissions Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land after Moses’ death. God reassures Joshua of His presence, commands him to be strong and courageous, and emphasizes the importance of meditating on the Word.

This passage reminds Christians that we are all called to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives, often facing challenges that may provoke fear or doubt. By understanding God’s commission to Joshua, believers can find encouragement and strength in their own callings, trusting that God equips those He calls.

This sermon teaches about God’s faithfulness in leadership transitions, the necessity of courage in the face of uncertainty, and the importance of grounding ourselves in Scripture as we navigate our own journeys of faith.

As God commissions Joshua, it points to Christ as the ultimate leader who guides His people into the true promise of eternal life. Just as God was with Joshua, Christ promises to be with us always, empowering us to fulfill the Great Commission.

God calls us to courageous leadership in our lives, motivated by His presence and the truth of His Word.
