Meet Chaplain Joshua
Joshua Hedgecock is an independent chaplain whose ministry is shaped by presence, compassion, and the simple conviction that God meets people right where they are, especially in ordinary, difficult, and uncertain moments.
Rooted in the Lutheran tradition and inspired by the everyday spirituality of Hans Nielsen Hauge, Joshua believes faith is meant to be lived, not just discussed. His chaplaincy reflects a personal, deeply relational approach: listening without judgment, creating safe space for questions, and offering grounded spiritual care to people from all walks of life.
Josh’s work is also influenced by his study of Søren Kierkegaard, whose insights into hope, anxiety, and the courage to be a self inform both his writing and his pastoral presence. Through this lens, Josh accompanies people through grief, doubt, and life transitions—helping them rediscover meaning, hope, and God’s nearness in the midst of the absurd and the ordinary.
As the founder of Fortress Chaplain Services, Josh provides pastoral counseling, crisis and grief support, and spiritual direction. His ministry is fully inclusive, welcoming all individuals, the unchurched, the spiritually curious, and those who have been hurt or marginalized by religion.
Whether meeting online or in person, Joshua’s calling is simple:
to be a steady, compassionate presence for people navigating real life.
When he’s not offering spiritual care, Joshua writes reflections and blog posts on faith, hope, inclusion, and finding God in the everyday.
